VENTURER SCOUTS

Who: girls and boys aged 15 to 17.5 years

When: 8pm-10pm, Fridays. We are currently meeting with the Chill Unit, at the 1st Croydon Hills Scout Hall.

The Venturer Unit is predominantly self-governing. Venturers democratically elect a Unit Council who are responsible for overseeing the running of the Unit. Venturers decide on their program by themselves, and planning of weekly activities is shared amongst members. The Venturer Leader fulfills more of a guidance role, and encourages the Venturers to be independent.

Venturers are encouraged to pursue badge-work, however, this does not have a strong presence in weekly activities, as the work is more independent and completed with the support of the Unit Council and Leaders. Venturers participate in camps of increasing difficulty and have the opportunity to experience a wide range of adventurous activities such as (but not limited to!) rock climbing, abseiling, boating, caving, and air activities.

At an age where many teenagers are dealing with pressures at school, Venturers provides a fantastic opportunity to chill out with a different group of friends.

The Scout Promise

On my honour, I promise that I will do my best,

To do my duty to my God and to the Queen of Australia,

To help other people,

And to live by the Scout Law

Venturers can choose to omit “the Queen” in the Promise such that the second line would read: to do my duty to my God and to Australia

The Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy

A Scout is loyal

A Scout is helpful

A Scout is friendly

A Scout is cheerful

A Scout is considerate

A Scout is thrifty

A Scout is courageous

A Scout is respectful

A Scout cares for the environment.
